Hong Kong practice C3 Design & Decorative Ltd., co-founded by Calvin Ho, Bryan Lie and another partner, derives its name from their shared principles: Creativity, Confidence and Consultative. The “3” represents the three founders.
The studio identifies client needs through deep communication and careful listening, capturing unique expectations and preferences to create unexpected interior spaces.

What does design mean to you?
Design is about accumulating taste and experience, then sharing it. We dont see it as one-way delivery but as genuine two-way dialogue. We begin by listening quietly to clients most delicate life rhythms and emotional needs, then weave in our teams refined aesthetic taste, spatial experience and commitment to materials and details that weve honed over years. Its like tailoring bespoke garments. We handle the cutting, fabric selection and construction. They tell us where it feels comfortable and where it needs more room. The final space carries our professional expertise and taste while genuinely belonging to them as home. The moment they move in, they feel its a perfect fit. This is designs greatest meaning to us: transforming our finest essence into clients most comfortable, most natural everyday living.

Whats your design philosophy?
Push beyond what clients imagine and create unlimited possibilities within limited resources. Clients approach us with clear visions, wanting ample storage, yearning for Scandinavian style or seeking better natural light. But we never stop at satisfying these surface wants. We probe deeper: what do they truly need inside? Ten years later, will this space still suit their life trajectory? Within the established budget framework, can we create an additional 20% surprise? We habitually go one step further. Perhaps transforming an overlooked wall into a full concealed storage system. Maybe upgrading ordinary ceiling lights to adjustable color temperature ambient lighting. Sometimes just fine-tuning the circulation layout means mornings first sunlight falls precisely onto the dining table. This extra step often requires no substantial additional cost, yet allows clients three or five years after moving in to still marvel at how visionary those initial design decisions proved. Resources are certainly limited: square footage, budget, building structure. But imagination should never be constrained. Our mission is opening infinite possibilities within various limitations, presenting clients with the most perfect solution.

How do you keep your creativity alive?
For designers, professionalism and diligence are essential, but what truly distinguishes work is often internal mindset and perspective. We believe maintaining curiosity and passion for the world provides creativitys most enduring nourishment. Travel, read, visit exhibitions, experience different cultures, even just conversing freely with friends all night. These moments seemingly unrelated to work actually quietly expand our perceptual boundaries, keeping our imagination about light, materials, proportion and relationships between people and space both sharper and bolder. Only knowing how to work without knowing how to step away easily creates inertia and narrowed vision, making design conservative. Conversely, when you allow yourself to fully experience life, you return to the studio with younger eyes and more open attitudes, ready to challenge possibilities previously unimaginable. We never view play as rest but as part of our profession. Work seriously, also live seriously. Only those maintaining passion for life can design spaces that genuinely move people.
