Founded in 2010, J.Candice Interior Architects is a dynamic local design firm dedicated to crafting innovative and functional spaces in Hong Kong and Asia. Their diverse projects include hospitality, members clubhouses, Michelin-star restaurants, chain restaurants, retail, public spaces, education and showhouses, spanning Hong Kong, Macau, China, and Seoul.

What inspired you to enter this industry?
Ive always had a passion for creating spaces. Being a right-brain person, I gravitate towards music, drawing, and painting – anything that evokes emotions. I knew I wanted to pursue something creative. Growing up in a family in the F&B industry, our Sunday activities as a family often involved visiting restaurants. Whenever there was a restaurant under construction, my parents would take me along. The idea of gazing into an empty space and visualising colours, light, and shadows – transforming whats in my mind into reality – has always been incredibly intriguing.

Whats your design philosophy, and how has it evolved over your career?
We are a very adaptive firm. Our main focus is helping our clients find their voice. We also emphasise the business side of design, ensuring that our clients understand the practical implications of our creative choices.

What was your proudest project in 2025?
Champion Circle and Inner Circle – a 60,000 square-foot horse racing betting venue and VIP lounge at the Shatin Racecourse – are among our larger-scale projects. Creating a space intertwined with Hong Kongs iconic culture and giving it a modern touch has been an amazing journey. The Mandarin Orientals Clipper Lounge and Café Causette are also significant to us, as these venues are part of the iconic fabric of Hong Kong and hold a special place in our hearts.

Could you share a book, movie, music, or place that has significantly inspired you?
Naoshima was a wonderful experience! The whole island is packed with galleries, museums, and nature. We visited with our children about six years ago, rented a car and drove around the island – everyone had a blast! It was a sensory explosion, with a mix of outer stimulation and inner peace all around.
