Ann Chan, founder of Hero Design Group, has made her mark on Hong Kongs interior design scene since launching the firm in 2021. Known for creating spaces that tell stories and bridge cultures, she approaches each project as an opportunity for a meaningful cross-cultural exchange.
What inspired you to enter this industry?
My journey into interior design was sparked by a blend of personal migration and professional exploration. Born in Hong Kong, I emigrated to the US, worked in banking and consulting across North America and Europe, and immersed myself in diverse cultures from Dallas to Amsterdam. These experiences revealed how spaces reflect identity and stories, far beyond functionality. I founded Hero Design Group to channel this insight and to transform environments into meaningful narratives that foster connection and self-expression.
What’s your design philosophy, and how has it evolved over your career?
At Hero Design Group, the philosophy centres on storytelling through space. Every project weaves a cultural resonance, emotional depth, and innovative materiality to create immersive, personal experiences.
We prioritise design thinking to craft strategic briefs that go beyond aesthetics by emphasising sustainability and global collaboration. Over my career – from banking to consulting and now design – this philosophy has evolved from a focus on functional efficiency to a deeper commitment to cultural exchange.

What are your proudest projects of 2025?
Last year, two projects stood out for their innovative fusion of heritage and modernity. The first was a private residence in Hong Kong inspired by an Italian modern farmhouse. We reimagined rustic elegance with warm terracotta tones, reclaimed woods, and open layouts that blend indoor and outdoor living, creating a serene sanctuary within an urban context.
The second was the House of Great Treasure, a retail lifestyle showroom where we transformed a space into a dynamic cultural hub. Featuring bespoke displays, layered textiles, and interactive zones, it showcases artisanal treasures while promoting mindful consumption and a narrative-driven retail experience.
