Frank Leung, founder of multidisciplinary design studio via., is recognised as one of Asias most influential creatives spanning both the architectural and interior design scene. 2025 marked a significant year for the veteran architect with his inaugural photo exhibition, new work for Kimpton Tsim Sha Tsui Hong Kong, Club Cascade at La Montagne, S22 commercial space, and many more.
Congratulations on your inaugural photo exhibition. Whats the biggest takeaway from the show?
Photography for me is expression without too much premediation – it’s a moment of happenstance and creative freedom. My photographs are also about my compassion for the human condition; the ribbon of photographs carry a range of emotions that I’ve captured through the lens. I think these are good reminders of our work in design and architecture.
What would you say is your proudest project of 2025?
Being part of the Kimpton Tsim Sha Tsui Hong Kong design story, which essentially is a story of three Hong Kong designers creating a new Hong Kong themed experience, has been very rewarding for my team and me personally. I’m especially thrilled to fuse Hong Kong’s rich film and photography culture, curating pieces like photographs by Chow Yun Fat and Man Lim Chung, and ceramic sculpture by Karena Lam, into the interior experience.
And your biggest achievement of 2025?
I believe creativity is in the work and the process – and we kept ourselves quite busy throughout 2025. We completed over 15 projects of different scales. Keeping the family at via. is always our first priority.
How does your design style reflect your MBTI?
Last I checked, I am what they call an Assertive Protagonist (ENFJ-A) – “a unique blend of charisma, empathy and idealism”, with a “deep-seated desire to make a positive impact on the world around you.” My goal for our architectural and interior design work, is to bring delight to people through these vessels that we create, which are not only containers of memories, but also canvases for future growth.
Any interesting project in your pipeline for 2026?
One of the great things about being both architect and designer under one roof is we are able to create a wider range of projects. Besides luxury residential and hospitality projects that people identify with via., we have a growing portfolio of education and community projects that probably traces back to WWF Peter Scott Visitor Centre in Mai Po. Ultimately we design for people, so we’re excited to work on these new opportunities that explore different parts of our creative muscles.
