Milan Design Week was in fine form this year, with interior design and furniture brands from across the globe introducing intriguing products leveraging sustainable materials, new technologies, and much more. Discover five of our favourites below:
Origo pendant lamps by David Pompa
Origo light by David Pompa
Created by Mexico City-based design studio David Pompa, the Origo collection of lighting comprises pendant lights and wall fixtures whose bases are hand-crafted from the porous black volcanic stone Recinto, which the studio has utilised in a number of its other pieces. Named for the Latin word for “origin”, the collection was inspired by the idea of beginnings.
Vitrine glass cabinet and TV by Vitra and Panasonic
At first glance, the Vitrine television prototype – created by Vitra, Panasonic, and designer Daniel Rybakken – might look like nothing more than a sleek pane of glass in a wood frame. In actuality, the pane is an OLED screen whose function is only obvious once switched on. When switched off, it seamlessly and unobtrusively blends into the surrounding space.

Nuances collection by Patricia Urquiola for GAN
Crafted by Patricia Urquiola for Spanish furniture brand GAN, the Nuances collection takes discarded wool fibres and re-works them into a unique fabric resembling stone, which is then hand-sewn to create three rugs and poufs in different colour combinations.
A.I. Chair by Philippe Starck for Kartell
A.I. Chair by Philippe Starck for Kartell
As its name suggests, the A.I. Chair is one of the first chairs created via artificial intelligence. Philippe Starck designed the chair using prototype generative design software by Autodesk for Italian brand Kartell. Sleek, stackable and minimalist, the chairs design was the product of the software responding to Starck and Kartells design preferences.
Piscis by Jorge Penadés for BD Barcelona Design
Piscis vases by Jorge Penadés for BD Barcelona Design
Another product of unusual material is the Piscis collection of six limited edition vases, crafted from aluminium reclaimed from old lamps and shelves by Spanish designer Jorge Penadés for furniture brand BD Barcelona Design. The result is a striking array of colourful, geometric pieces.
