At Aberdeen Marina Club on Hong Kong Island’s south side, the water is never just a backdrop – it quietly defines the club’s character.
In AB Concept’s latest reimagining of the Chairman’s Room and President’s Room, the bay’s reflections are effectively drawn indoors, with warm timber and carefully judged lighting providing a discreet stage for gatherings and giving the familiar club atmosphere a subtle contemporary lift.

Long established as a go‑to address for weddings, family occasions and corporate entertaining, the club has entrusted interior and architectural studio AB Concept with a full rethink of its two signature banquet suites. Rather than simply renewing finishes, the designers have treated the project as an opportunity to recalibrate how these rooms relate to the marina outside, and how they support the rhythm of modern social life.

The scheme takes the stillness of the yacht harbour as its starting point. Existing partitions have been pared back and the waterfront side of the plan refined, allowing sightlines to carry out more naturally towards the pool deck and moored boats. With daylight pushed deeper into the rooms and broader bay views opened up, the Chairman’s and President’s Rooms shift from enclosed function boxes to spaces that remain visually and atmospherically connected to the sea, even in the midst of a formal banquet.

Both rooms are structured around an arrival lounge flowing into the main dining area, making the transition from reception to dinner feel natural rather than staged. Flexible partitions and operable elements mean the spaces can contract for small family dinners or expand to host larger wedding banquets and corporate evenings, maintaining the balance between hotel‑grade event capability and the more intimate mood expected of a members’ club.

Custom‑made furniture and lighting, developed with specialist makers, tie the concept together. Proportions are tuned for long, sociable meals; light is layered in washes and accents so the rooms can be gently adjusted from daytime brightness to evening glow. The overall effect is not dramatic reinvention, but a considered evolution – a pair of familiar club spaces quietly updated for a new generation, with the sea still very much at their centre.
