Coinciding with his 69th birthday celebration, renowned Hong Kong designer Alan Chan is taking the spotlight at Whitestone Gallery with Who Is Alan Chan? A Journey of Art Since 1960s,” a solo exhibition chronicling his personal work, including never-before-seen art pieces produced during his teenage years.
The prolific designer has led a storied career encompassing advertising, branding, graphic and product design, even home furnishings and beauty, and the exhibition is set to showcase works in other mediums – from graphic art created as a student and iPhone-captured images artfully put together as framed photographs, to object and video installations reflecting his thoughts and ideas on culture and identity.
Alan’s work has been showcased at major exhibitions and galleries around the world, including Ginza Graphic Gallery, Hong Kong Heritage Museum and Shanghai Art Museum, as well as the Shanghai Biennale. He has been shortlisted for the Hong Kong Contemporary Art Award, and his work is collected by museums such as London’s Victoria and Albert Museum, Museum für Gestaltung Zurich, the National Art Museum of China in Beijing, Shanghai Art Museum, M+ in Hong Kong and the Hong Kong Museum of Art.
