One of the charms of living solo is the freedom that comes with it. This sentiment has been fully embraced by the homeowner of this distinctive dwelling in the former Kai Tak Airport vicinity, as he spends the majority of his year travelling around like a free-roaming bird.

With his globetrotting nature in mind, Epic Interior Design transformed the original three-bedroom, three-bathroom layout into a more streamlined two-bedroom, one-bathroom configuration.

Home Interior

The Epic team strategically removed an unnecessary bathroom and repurposed the remaining plumbing to introduce a practical bar sink in the living room that’s perfect for cleaning glassware or utensils. This unique washing station, inspired by the cleaning set-ups found on aeroplanes, infuses the homeowner’s jet-setting life into the heart of the home.

“As part of the reconfiguration, we removed the extra bathrooms and the helper’s room to open up the living room for entertainment needs,” the design team said.

“We also installed folding doors to flexibly divide the living and dining areas so that the homeowner can easily adjust the layout for some mahjong times. Originally, there was an issue with the main entrance and kitchen doors facing each other. We resolved this by relocating the kitchen door to the side of the TV wall and opting for a concealed door design.”

Living Room

The homeowner put great trust in the design team and gave it free rein to exercise its design ideas. The living room is now governed by soft tones, with hardware decorations using light-coloured imitation wood laminate from Singapore’s Lamitak Studio, complemented by rose gold metal details. The floor is laid with Pandora rock slabs, which have a rustic and natural texture.

The ceilings, walls, and cabinet units in the living and dining rooms all boast gentle curvatures. By the window, there are two rounded wall edges symbolising the form of two hands embracing. They take their cue from the golden egg-like view outside the window, representing the idea of “bringing home the golden egg”.

B&B Italia

In the living room, the classic Up 50 armchair and footstool by Italian brand B&B Italia rest in front of the floor-to-ceiling glass windows, which allows natural light to pour in and fill the home with warm and happy vibes.

With acute attention to details, the Epic team crafted a drop ceiling with spiralling cut-outs to cleverly conceal the spotlights. This design bathes the room in a gentle glow, illuminating the space without exposing the light sources. This subtle touch enhances the room’s atmosphere and allows you to bask in the light’s ambiance without distraction.

Bedroom

The master bedroom also incorporates a curved design in the headboard wall, continuing the colour, material, and style of the living area. The room includes a walk-in closet, offering generous storage space tailored to the homeowner’s lifestyle.
