This 2,100 square-foot house in Pak Sha Wan, Sai Kung, reunited two long-lost classmates who hadn’t spoken since graduation.
Andrew Lai, founder of Galaxy Interior Design, said: “The homeowner is a college friend of mine who lives here with his wife and helper. We hadn’t spoken since graduation, until this project brought us back together.
“My team and I planned every design with his needs in mind, which allowed me to know him even better and deepen our friendship.”
The house spans three storeys with five rooms. As the couple enjoys spending time at home and occasionally hosting friends, they sought a living space that is comfortable and natural.
The result is thoughtful and human-oriented. For example, there is ample space for their two dogs to roam, along with sleek and simple furniture that fits their lifestyle.
The design team placed a lot of emphasis on the walls and floors, using large marble-patterned granite slabs (280cm x 120cm) to minimise seams and enhance the overall natural look.
Meanwhile, all corners of the house were rounded, and bendable materials were used for the baseboards. The living room on the first floor is governed by a deep ocean blue palette that contrasts with the lighter floors.
“The homeowners love relaxing in the living room and spending time in the study,” Lai said. “So, we positioned the study to face a mountain view and set up a reading space by the window to provide a comfortable and relaxing reading environment.”
In the master bedroom, the bed strategically faces the window that allows the couple to enjoy the outside view. The bathroom walls are adorned with small cracked ice tiles that echo the curved lines of the columns.
Meanwhile, the spacious bathroom features a niche in the shower wall made of black marble-patterned tiles, embedded with waterproof lighting strips that adds a touch of sophistication to the space.
