The homeowners are a young couple. The wife is a music teacher, so they requested a home that could accommodate various musical instruments, including a trumpet, guitar, and cajón.
Saipen Ng, founder and design director of L Vogue Design, said: “We named this project ‘The Night of Sonata’. The design focuses on an open layout and a moody vibe, using clean lines and a mix of modern and retro elements to create a stylish, inviting space. This design allows the couple to enjoy a relaxed lifestyle and a work-life balance.” The design features unique materials, dark tones, and trendy elements to create a jazz-blues ambiance.
Originally, the space featured a three-bedroom, two living-room layout, with an additional storage room. After reconfiguration, the home now features three main areas – the living room, dining room, and a reading area. It also includes one master suite and a storage room.
The original layout had a diamond-shaped living area. Placing the sofa, TV, dining table, and chairs in the usual way made the space feel cramped, with the sofa and TV wall too close together.
So the designer removed one room to give way for a bigger, open-plan living and dining room that includes a study. The desk is designed in an irregular shape to fit the angular space. Additionally, the original storage room was reduced in size to allow for a larger dining area, which now includes storage and display cabinets.
Tips
Out in the open
An open layout can significantly enhance both space and visual impact. Pair it with sleek furniture or small home items for a comfortable and cosy feel.
Double pleasure
Equip your bathroom with both a shower and bath. Here, the bathroom features dedicated shower and bath areas, complemented by stylish design elements for maximal relaxation. The bath area is decked with floor tiles in black and white, harmonising with the marble textures on the walls.
