Got an important Zoom meeting coming up? Here are some quick tips for dressing up your backdrop.
1. Declutter
No one wants to look at a messy screen filled with clutters of paper and piles of unorganised books. So start first by clearing out anything from behind your camera that will come across as too busy. Get rid of everything that doesn't belong in your room. Throw everything that belongs in another room into a laundry basket or a box.
2. Add Lighting
Interior designers and makeup artists well understand lighting can make a huge difference. Always ensure there is a diffused light in front of you so your face is evenly illuminated. If this isn’t possible, then you can sit in front of a window to naturally illuminate yourself for the call. Try to avoid sitting in dark spaces while on video calls as this can look unprofessional.
3. Get a Plant
Houseplants are all the rage right now. Besides myriad health benefits, it’s a simple, affordable way to amp up your interior design game. While doing video calls, some gorgeous greenery here and there will make your house look happy and alive, and also make you feel happy and alive. What’s not to love?
4. Deck a Gallery Wall
Your background says a lot about who you are as a person. The artwork you may have on the wall can shed light on your interests, offering a glimpse into your personality, whereas a plain white wall is simply boring. A gallery wall, or just one or two pieces of art, make for good backdrops for virtual meetings.
5. Organise a Bookshelf
If you’re going for the professional look, your bookshelf backdrop can be an exercise in self-branding. That said, you need to get the arrangements right. A well-styled bookcase should pair function with aesthetics. Stack your books in different dimensions to give a sense of depth. Pay attention to the books that appear and how they may come off.
