In the heart of Southern California, The Georgian is a gorgeous piece of Art Deco architecture. The hotel's unique characteristics and thoughtful design make it a Santa Monica landmark.
Overlooking the beautiful coastline of Southern California, The Georgian is a stunning hotel that has become an iconic fixture of the Santa Monica cityscape. With its historic significance and timeless elegance, the hotel has been an integral part of the Santa Monica hospitality scene since renowned hotelier Rosamond Borde dreamt it up in 1933. M. Eugene Durfee, an esteemed architect of his time, designed the stunning turquoise façade and navy-striped awnings that have made The Georgian a local landmark.
As guests approach The Georgian’s entrance, they are greeted by the fragrant aroma of flowers from peach hibiscus and other vibrant foliage designed and procured by LA-based nursery Rolling Greens. These beautiful plants add a whimsical touch and reflect the hotel’s dedication to design details that connect with guests. The building's awe-inspiring design, complemented by seasonal floral installations by LA-based French floral artist Jean Pascal, welcomes you to a cinematic entryway.
Upon entering the hotel lobby, guests are transported to the 1930s, where Art Deco chandeliers and original decorative reliefs, high ceilings, and vintage-inspired décor elements create an intimate atmosphere. The intimate dining room and visually striking Sunset Bar, on the left and right, respectively, complete the grand entrance. Looking around the reception, you get a feel for Wes Anderson-inspired design that further emphasizes the hotel’s charm and unique character.
The Writer’s Room is the perfect place to enjoy an intimate dinner. This private space features a unique Hugo Guinness collection in the Library - a full-stocked study with a selection of modern and vintage books covering the history of art and culture in Los Angeles and Santa Monica. The library's literary curation is one-of-a-kind, with books by Joan Didion, Eve Babitz, and Christopher Isherwood giving you inspiration while relaxing in the curated spaces.
The Georgian’s rooms embrace its Art Deco heritage, offering breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean and Santa Monica Pier. Each room showcases the hotel’s unique personality with their original ornate peepholes, custom golden-hued arched headboards created by Fettle, and globe-shaped crystal light fixtures. The luxurious bedding is draped in fine Italian linens by Bellino with accent cushions by Italian textile designer Lisa Corti.
The suites take luxury to another level. They feature stunning ocean views, a separate bedroom, a large living room with pastel-toned couches, and curated amenities like a Polaroid camera and Victrola record players. The hotel even offers a unique “press for” concierge service, delivering everything from champagne and dessert to antique carts of rare books, directly to your door.
Legendary for its exclusivity, the Georgian Room is popular with the rich and famous, including celebrities like Clark Gable and Carole Lombard. It is now open to the public after being closed for over 50 years and offers its famous dinner-only experience and a piano bar. The Georgian Room’s bar is home to a 1918 Steinway & Sons piano, built into the bar, which comes to life nightly with sounds carefully curated for guests.
The Georgian blends the old-world charm of a classic novel with the modern-day appeal of a box-office blockbuster, creating a timeless story that captivates audiences. With its inviting atmosphere and stunning design, it's no surprise The Georgian is one of the most beloved landmarks in the city.
