This charming family home on a quiet residential street in London's Graham Road and Mapledene Conservation Area has been beautifully reimagined by the talented team at Ampuero Yutronic. What was once a dilapidated Victorian end-of-terrace has now been transformed into a spacious and light-filled sanctuary, perfect for modern family living.
Inherited from the past were a series of ad-hoc alterations and additions that had left the home with irregular, disjointed spaces – a far cry from the modern, family-centric living the young residents desired. Undaunted, the designers began by stripping the place down to the studs, which allowed them to reconfigure the internal spaces from the ground up.
The result is a flowing, open-concept plan that prioritises both form and function. The welcoming new entryway, with its direct access to the central staircase and a convenient guest lavatory, sets an elegant tone.
But the real showstopper is the expanded ground floor, where they've combined the living, dining and kitchen areas into one expansive, versatile space. And to really make the most of it, they even lowered the floor at the back to create a seamless indoor-outdoor connection.
Upstairs, the previously ramshackle outrigger has been rebuilt with a swoon-worthy vaulted ceiling, while the loft conversion at the front now boasts a double-height master suite. Talk about living large.
Throughout the home, a soothing neutral palette and thoughtful material choices lend a refined, relaxed sensibility. Light and dark wood accents warm the living spaces, while custom kitchen surfaces add a touch of unique character. Outside, the new rear additions respectfully echo the existing streetscape, with carefully composed concrete panels and a sleek metal-clad dormer.
In the end, this once-tired Victorian has been transformed into a modern masterpiece – a harmonious blend of tradition and innovation that provides the perfect backdrop for contemporary family living.
