This is the sort of vacation home that’s the complete antithesis of the rustic shack: it’s elegant, exquisitely decorated and appointed, and every aspect of it has been carefully thought through. The result is that whether you want to celebrate a special birthday with a group of friends, spend half a day crafting something special in the kitchen or simply relax under that magnolia tree, this house will suit all your needs.
The stone-clad, three-storey structure, which is situated just outside Sóller on the idyllic island of Mallorca, needed a complete renovation when designer, decorator and Mango creative director Damián Sánchez bought it in 2009. Arrive at the house today, and once you have made your way through the manicured grounds (filled with fruit trees that were once part of the extensive orchards on the property) the ground-floor entrance hall provides a warm welcome.
In the living room, a wrought-iron chandelier is juxtaposed with an angular metal sculpture by Carlos Evangelista; a Günther Förg art piece hangs above the hearth. The entrance hall features an artwork by Joaquin Chancho.
In the first floor study room, the red Eames office chair complements the 1950s iron desk beautifully; the bookshelves were sourced from an antiques store, Maestro Paco. The French table by the entrance hall is from Galería de Marita Segovia in Madrid.
The main bedroom – with an open-plan bathroom and dressing area – takes up the entire second floor of the house.
The dining room, which also leads out onto the patio and pool area, features red Tolix chairs purchased from Galeria Miquel Alzueta. The Nautic glass and metal pendant light is from Tekna.
The spacious patio is made for outdoor relaxation, whether during the day or at night. The wrought iron garden chairs were refurbished so as to retain their vintage look.
