For many urban dwellers, the appeal of an idyllic rural escape is unassailable. This is certainly true for one family, who enlisted the talents of Ana Proença and Célia Mestre – co-founders of Lisbon-based studio Atelier Spacemakers – to realise their dream second-home in the heart of Portugal’s wine country.

Occupying a single story, the residence embodies the clean, architectural lines celebrated by the modernist movement, while the elimination of walls and partitions allows for a smooth flow of space within. Interior adornments are kept to a minimum, with a curated collection of vintage pieces adding character to the light-filled layout that overlooks the stunning vineyard beyond.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Standout spaces include the dining area, which features a dramatic Atelier Spacemakers-designed table crafted from hardwood, iron and finished in gold, that is complemented by an expressive suspension light by DelightFULL. The games room impresses with a Veuve Clicquot snooker table in the Champagne house’s signature yellow, while, by contrast, the master suite is mature and muted in an earthy palette of neutrals and appointments by Charles Eames and DelightFULL’s Sinatra floor lamp.
