From its instantly recognisable tune to iconic set and fan-favourite cast – everything about the American television sitcom Friends has captivated the hearts of Americans and the world at large since first airing in 1994, and long beyond its conclusion in 2004.
Now in celebration of its 25th anniversary , fans are getting to relive the iconic moments through newly released collectibles such as a limited edition Lego figurines, plus personal guided tours to their Manhattan apartment and iconic Central Park cafe. For the first time, the personal home of actor Matthew Perry – a.k.a. Chandler Bing – has also been revealed and up for grabs that is sure to entice his deep-pocketed fans.
In fact, after the show wrapped in 2004, the Massachusetts-born actor has not only continued to find success across acting, writing and producing, but has also built an impressive real estate portfolio while purchasing, renovating and flipping luxury properties across California.
Among his favourite projects is this stunning apartment that sits near the top of the 42-floor The Century in Los Angeles. Designed by world renowned Robert A.M. Stern Architects, the building boasts four private green gardens with views of downtown Los Angeles, Mount Santa Monica and the Pacific Ocean on full display.
Matthew’s apartment takes up the entire 40th floor and spans an impressive 9,318sqft. What sets it apart, however, is the amount of involvement Matthew had in its design. Unlike many celebrity properties where the aesthetic is mainly conceived by a design firm, Matthew collaborated closely with his own private team of architect and designers, led by Scott Joyce and LM Paganoe, to put his own spin on the home that is now on the market for US$35 million.
Encased by expansive floor-to-ceiling glass windows, Los Angeles’ dazzling day and night views become as much part of the home as any design element. The space features a living area with two large fireplaces and a master en suite with multiple living areas. Four bedrooms and eight bedrooms sit alongside luxuries such as a home cinema and game – surely a far cry from the modest New York City apartment that Chandler shares with wife Monica Geller!
A state of the art kitchen sets the perfect stage for Matthew to entertain his famous friends (one can only imagine the likes of Jennifer Aniston, Courtney Cox and David Schwimmer hanging out around the kitchen island). The high rise also offers plenty of outdoor entertaining opportunities with four expansive terraces built in.
The building itself is also noteworthy on its own: it holds a silver certification from the U.S. Green Building Council and boasts a 75-foot pool, auditorium, yoga and pilates studio, plus wine storage facilities.
No wonder that Matthew isn’t the only A-lister who have found homes in the building, with the 41st-to-42nd penthouse occupied by Candy Spelling and the likes of Rihanna, Paula Abdul, Elizabeth Berkley as neighbours.
