You may know her for the colourful drapes and cuts that mark her clothing collections, but today you'll also get to know Roksanda Ilinčić for her equally exquisite interior design, with a recently furnished luxury apartment in King's Cross, London.
The three-bedroom penthouse is one of nine in the WilkinsonEyre-designed Gasholders London complex, built within Grade II-listed cast iron gasholder guide frames. The complex is also home to 145 apartments.
Replete with postmodern and mid-century furniture, along with a curation of women-authored art pieces and books, the penthouse is on the market fully-furnished for GBP7.8 million, about HKD77 million; and around HKD75 million unfurnished.
Applying her background in architecture and design, Roksanda has created a dreamy abode dressed in a palette of pastels and deep reds.
In the living room, a geometric painting by Swiss artist Caroline Denervaud overlooks two 1950s chairs by Pierre Jeanneret; a pair of yellow fibreglass seating; and a curved sofa by Christophe Delcourt flanked by sculptural floor lamps, including one by Francois Châtain. Salmon pink curtains by Kvadrat bathe the room in a nice, tinted light.
Denervaud makes another appearance in the dining room with a handpainted mural anchoring the space, which also features a dining table by Angelo Mangiarotti, Costes chairs by Philippe Starck, and a marble island.
The study is furnished with a table by Charlotte Perriand, along with a 1980s chair by Mario Botta.
The bedroom, a lush retreat in red, is outfitted with a bed by Tobia Scarpa, as well as a ceramic sculpture by Eny Lee Parker.
Pieces by Australian ceramicist Alana Wilson, Berlin-based potter Christine Roland, and Londoner Annette Lantsought also fill the rest of the home.
The smallest details and touches of the home were likewise thoughtfully considered, with scents handpicked by Lyn Harris of Perfumer H, and book selections curated by Ilinčić's closest friends – Eva Rothschild, Marina Abramovic, Alice Rawsthorn, Valeria Napoleone – featuring titles by Patti Smith, Nell Dunn, and Joan Didion.
For the private roof garden, overlooking views of shopping and dining district Coal Drops Yard, Ilinčić chose the Pallas Table by Konstantin Grcic, as well as Gitta Gschventer concrete stools.
“To be able to revisit a neighbourhood that felt so familiar to me, and which now hosts the institution that moulded me as a designer – Central Saint Martins – felt like an exciting opportunity,” says Ilinčić. "Architecture, art and design are disciplines which consistently inspire my own collections. This project has created the opportunity to expand my own ideas about creating a true reflection of my own aesthetic, beyond fashion.”
