Infusing Santo by the sea’s 8,611-sq.-ft. space with Cycladic architecture, the waterfront property is brimmed in white plaster from top to bottom. In addition, PHSA remains characteristic of the traditional Santorini style in their recreation with smooth edge corners and flat roofs. The whitewashed living space is in complete harmony with its surrounding, combined with the oceanic scenery creating the familiar sense of being by the Mediterranean Sea, asked the client.
Knowing light is the crucial element in architectural perception, PHSA constitutes the stillness of structure with the dynamics of light to reflect on shadows’ volume. The parallelism between dimension and light luminosity inflates surface texture and shade, adding vivid details to the house.
One of the biggest challenges that come with this project is the thick panel of walls and narrow doorways. Functionality intertwines with simplicity, many open frames placed in correspondence to one another are purposed around the house, building every window and entryways a border of canvas, allowing nature to portray itself as each moment in time changes. From dawn to dusk, these rounded arches bring a catch of sight to one’s perspective.
Situated in the middle, the swimming pool drags along the house with a void on top, which opens to the sky as its structural figure shapes a U, welcoming natural light inflow and illuminating the chalk-white walls and tropical turquoise hue pool.
The distinctive sanctuary-like residence is a modern yet majestic piece of art, allowing the foreign component to feel closer to home. At the moment, the house's exterior has been completed, while the interior has just started its furnishing process.
