Style makes the difference,” says Emmanuel de Bayser, the owner of this expertly curated Berlin apartment that fuses 1950s classics with 21st-century style. Also the co-owner of cult fashion and design boutique The Corner Berlin, Emmanuel is incredibly passionate about interiors, and certainly has a good eye in choosing and mixing pieces with aplomb.
The Frenchman used to work in consulting and communications before he settled in Germany in 2006; last year, he and his partner, Josef Völk, moved into this grand two-storey apartment in a historic late-19th-century building near the Gendarmenmarkt.
A dramatic staircase leads to Emmanuel’s apartment on the first floor. As soon as you enter the apartment, you’re totally fascinated by the juxtaposition of an elegant Jean Prouvé desk and chair with a Jouvé lamp and mirror, as well as a Berber carpet from the 1930s. The 1,950sqft apartment looks and feels more spacious because of the five-metre-high ceiling, creating an incredibly airy atmosphere.
