When the Dreyer family moved to the Middle East, it was important for them to maintain a connection with their former base of Paris, and thus they felt fortunate to find a home-away-from-home apartment in the historical and creative Marais area, for when they returned to visit. The location could not have been better as many of the surrounding streets have a plethora of wonderful galleries and boutiques that enable Virginie to keep a finger on the pulse of the latest trends when she is home.
The flat is housed in a 19th century building and its interiors are replete with unique details such as stucco ceilings, intricate cornicings and stained glass windows. We wanted a warm and welcoming apartment for when we are in Paris; a place where we could live as a family but also entertain friends and host intimate dinner parties,” explains Virginie. The family decided to work with FR66, a firm renowned for their beautiful interior designs, and noted especially for their ability to retrofit historical Haussmann apartments and adapt to them to modern needs as well as times.
The apartment was transformed into an open space where one can freely move from one room to another. By opening up the rooms, the space has been given a different look and feel – making it airy, accessible, as well as more flexible. At a glance, one can see the entire apartment through the rooms; as a result, the natural light illuminates the space in a special way. Sliding doors replaced walls, which allow the family to easily close off a room. For example, located at the back of the apartment, the daughters’ room can be given additional privacy in an instant especially when their parents entertain.
