Home to a pair of devoted cyclists, this Royal Ascot apartment done by CNS Interior Design has evolved into a sleek retreat that balances function and form.
The couple had been living here for many years, they wanted to give their home a completely new look. Calvin Chui, founder of CNS Interior Design, commented: “Given the homeowners’ passion for cycling, a large cabinet with sliding doors has been installed in the living room to display bicycles. The sliding doors can be hidden on both sides. Whether opened or closed, the display seamlessly integrates with the television unit for a unified visual effect.”
The original design of the living room featured a diamond shape, resulting in numerous awkward angles and a less practical space. The designer needed to address these irregularities while making the most of every inch of space.
After the refurbishment and reconfiguration, the home now embraces a minimalist yet elegant, understated luxury style, enhanced by artistic paint finishes for added visual impact.
In the dining and living area, white and deep blue vertical finishes have been used to balance the visual weight of different tones, thus softening the presence of awkward angles. One full-height cabinet connects seamlessly with the TV unit, creating an integrated base with an irregular shape that employs visual tricks to correct the diamond-shaped room.
Chui has also repositioned the en suite bathroom door to avoid it facing directly towards the master bedroom bed, thereby enhancing the comfort.
Tips
Free flow
Employ a sliding door to connect different zones. In this home, when the door is open, the study extends the master bedroom’s space; when closed, each room functions independently.
Light up
Track lights with adjustable angles were installed along the ceiling above the full-height cabinet. These lights highlight the bicycles or other displayed items, drawing attention to the display while enhancing the room’s visual appeal.
Paint a picture
Add depth and visual interest with artistic paint. The dining room walls got a fresh coat of artistic paint. The designer even refined the application technique to create the desired colour and texture.
