Root Design has turned this 1,100 sq.ft dwelling at LOHAS Park into a retirement haven.
The homeowners envisioned a cosy space where they could host guests and enjoy their retirement by playing the piano and savouring wine. As passionate wine lovers, they dreamt of a home that could store up to 100 bottles of wine, ensuring they have abundant wine storage to share and enjoy drinks with friends.
Root Design explains: “Our design was inspired by mid-century modern aesthetics, featuring clean lines and geometric shapes combined with natural materials in a contemporary reinterpretation. We emphasised structural integrity and functional space planning while maintaining an elegant style.”
To achieve the perfect blend of materials and visual appeal, the team invested considerable effort in creating samples, fine-tuning colours, and comparing palettes to ensure a flawless outcome. A professional lighting consultant was involved to create a welcoming and relaxed atmosphere, balancing practical lighting with a romantic ambiance.
The designer swapped the original positions of the living and sleeping areas. This allows the living room to take advantage of a stunning 270-degree sea view, creating a spacious and open environment.
During the reconfiguration, the design team had to retain all structural walls – working within these constraints to improve the natural lighting in the living room while addressing the homeowners’ lifestyle requirements.
The layout was strategically rearranged: the living and dining areas were positioned side by side to maximise natural light and provide stunning sea views. The entryway features a unique wall treatment that conceals a shoe cabinet, leading guests seamlessly into the living area, where they are greeted by the breathtaking views.
Tips
Negative space
Despite the richness of materials and textures in the living and dining areas, the designer employed the concept of white space near the large windows. This minimalistic approach enhances the connection between the interior and the stunning sea views, making the view the centrepiece.
Night lights
Given the bedroom’s raised platform floor with varying levels, nightlights were installed near the steps to prevent tripping at night, ensuring the homeowners’ safety.
