A solution aimed to enhance the comfort of living amid Huế’s harsh weather, BHA Studio applies the purity of space bodies and structures in architecture onto the 8x20 project.
Every creator has a different approach to understanding a client's request. From briefing to formulating then conceiving an idea, every architect has a different way of implementing their designing language on a building. Understanding that each project needs to reflect on two main factors: who is it for and where it is, Nguyễn Xuân Minh, the founder of BHA Studio often centres his work around light and location.
In terms of architecture, minimal design always features an open plan that welcomes lots of natural light. By manipulating clean lines and geometric shapes, the house is filled with ambiguous spaces that serve as connecting points or transitioning areas between each zone. Continuously shaping the living environment, Nguyễn regulates the practicality of space and usage of natural light.
Designed to accommodate a young family of 4 in Vỹ Dạ, Huế, Vietnam, the 2,583 sq. ft. land-turned-box with dimensions of 26x65x29 (ft) captures the entire property, built as a response and adaptation to the surrounding. Huế is known for its harsh weather, which includes a warm summer and a monsoon season. Therefore, to assure resistance, wire mesh is used for the front gate and perforated air-dried bricks on the back that help create ventilation and privacy.
Wanting to reduce the separation in space, instead of using panels of wall for partitions, Nguyễn interconnects areas of the house by using suspended floating boxes of bedrooms. This solution helps integrate his design style and increase the connection between family members without forgetting their comfort.
Light is one of the leading elements in architecture, it flatters a house with the beauty of simplicity in minimal design. Coupled with white paint, cement floor, glass doors and functional timber furniture, the little decorations clear the surface and enhance bare texture.
