Just a stone’s throw from the city, in Tīnūžu Pagasts, Latvia, a magnificent country estate had stood for generations, embodying a rich history and timeless elegance. Recently, this historic gem underwent a remarkable transformation by O&A London, heralding a rebirth that blended classic charm with contemporary sophistication.
The client is a design connoisseur and admirer ofSoviet-era Constructivism and early 20th-century art. A compelling challenge was presented: to transform an existing building into a country residence that pays homage to the late-Constructivist style.
Interiors were envisioned to capture the period's aesthetics, emphasising a modern yet functional approach enriched with historical objects and artwork. Designers embarked on an extensive search, amassing thousands of items, including vintage memorabilia and antiques from across the globe. This thoughtful curation allowed for the seamless integration of modern replicas, achieving an interior reflective of the tastes of the 1930s and 1940s.
Every detail was meticulously selected, extending even to the electrical sockets. This carefully curated collection of heritage classics continues to enhance the family’s contemporary lifestyle.
The residence features an impressive collection of vintage furniture sourced from 1stDIBS, including elegant chairs by Carl Malmsten in the sitting room and a striking floor lamp that adds character to the space. In the living room, a thoughtfully arranged book display invites engagement, while a luxurious leather chair in the dining room complements the overall aesthetic. The study boasts a chair by Hans J. Wegner, paired with a writing table from the same designer, enhanced by chairs from George Nakashima, creating a harmonious blend of classic and contemporary design throughout the home.
The architectural vision for the estate was brought to life by Oleg Klodt and his team at O&A London, while the interior design was expertly crafted by Anna Agapova of Agape Space, showcasing a seamless collaboration that enhances the home's timeless elegance and contemporary sophistication.
