This superlative mansion on the Peak reaches new heights of luxury indoor-outdoor living.
CLIENT BRIEF
The homeowner had a vision: each room should showcase its own unique colour scheme and atmosphere. “The client is particularly adventurous with colours and appreciates the lively energy of vibrant hues and textures,” says Ed Ng, founder of AB Concept.
Inspired by the firm’s previous project, Itsu Sho Sha, the homeowner looked to integrate abundant greenery to blur the lines between inside and out. Besides serving as a personal sanctuary, the residence needed to be a versatile venue for hosting friends and events.
CONCEPT & STYLE
Nestled deep on the Peak, this four-storey stunner is surrounded by ancient trees, giving it a natural and serene vibe. The layout includes a lower ground floor, a ground floor with a terrace, a first floor for the living quarters, and a rooftop garden. The design revolves around the indoor-outdoor living concept, making the most of its lush surroundings while keeping it private and personal.
On the lower ground floor is the Social Club with a custom wine cellar, metal mesh doors, and terrazzo flooring. Walnut wood, antique brass, and mirrors create a snug vibe perfect for gatherings. The ground floor boasts open living and dining rooms with floor-to-ceiling windows, plus a bar, kitchen, family room, and a terrace with a garden and pool. This level highlights timber wood and brass details. The walls are layered with a refined timber veneer and solid timber edges, with sleek brass joints connecting the panels. A custom screen made of solid timber, textured glass, brass and leather divides the living and dining zones, providing privacy without blocking garden views.
The cosy family room flows seamlessly into the outdoor pool area, offering plenty of leisure space. Tall trees around the terrace ensure privacy while keeping it breezy and open. The first floor features the master bedroom, two additional bedrooms, and a kid’s space. Boasting a whopping 1,000 square foot, the master suite comes with a living room, bathroom, and walk-in closet governed largely by parchment skin for a cosy and tranquil flair.
Everything in this house is tailored to a tee. No stone has been left unturned to meet the homeowner’s needs and showcase their refined taste. “Designing a private residence is not about right or wrong,” Ng stresses, “rather, the client’s preferences and their characteristics are paramount. When we started working on this project, it was very important to get to know the client. Maintaining close communication was crucial, and we were fortunate they were respectful and easy going.”
CHALLENGE
“Our challenge was to create bespoke joinery to meet the client’s specific needs, particularly for areas designed to entertain with panache,” Ng notes.
