On a street in Wan Chai that used to house printing presses, a new tower stands gleaming – and almost out of place, if not for a façade that harks back to local history.
The LUNA, new serviced apartments on Lun Fat Street by Vanke Property Hong Kong, aligns with this throwback motif through champagne gold balconies in staggered placements and gradual perforations that reference traditional printing blocks. The property is designed by Make Architects, initially commissioned for the interiors but who ultimately worked on the project as a whole.
Today, the tower that stands imbues a sense of contemporary luxury. Inside, layouts are oriented towards views of the surrounds, and feature a dramatic palette of light stone and dark oak that make room for the interplay of light and shadow.Three large, one-bedroom units occupy corner spots on each floor of the 29-storey building, separated in between by smaller studios. A penthouse sits on the top floor, while a clubhouse resides on a lower level. The residences are located atop a two-storey podium of retail and dining options.
Full-height windows deck out each of the 105 apartments, allowing a generous infiltration of natural light. As for the views? Surrounding city- and mountainscapes come through the window frames, a luxury that doesn’t stop there.

Mid-brown oak flooring and darker, engineered ‘oak noir’ on cabinets and cupboards are complemented by the pale stone of the walls and other touches. The kitchen features white worktops, and comes complete with amenities, while the bathroom is outfitted with a rain shower. Champagne bronze fixtures, in lamp shades and handles, tie the look together with an elegant finish.

Around the bed, side tables are integrated to the headboard, and strategically feature power outlets and lights within brown marble tops. The larger apartments also include a sliding door between the sleeping and living areas, as well as walk-in wardrobes with leather interiors.
The Make team, clearly, has spared no corner in infusing touches of modern times while paying homage to Wan Chai’s former days.
