Nestled in the heart of Shanghai’s former French Concession, an area beloved for its tree-lined avenues, shikumen architecture and laid-back insouciance, lies the Capella Shanghai, Jian Ye Li. Housed in the former Jian Ye Li estate, a 43,000-square-metre gated community, the all-villa property preserves the heritage of its historic site, while at the same time elevating the interiors to new levels of luxury.
Conceived by Jaya Interior Design and completed by BLINK Design Group (who recently acquired the Jaya interiors team) the aesthetic throughout the 55-villa urban resort unites traditional Chinese details with a decidedly French flair. Think silk brocade, hardwood appointments and glazed porcelain intermingling with wrought iron table legs, Louis XV-inspired curves and Impressionist artworks.
Other attractions, should you need them, include the indulgent Auriga Spa and Michelin-lauded chef Pierre Gagnaire’s first outpost in mainland China, Le Comptoir de Pierre Gagnaire – a charmingly chic 60-seat restaurant serving the culinary master’s signature brand of French cuisine.
