Best known for its all-encompassing range of home and lifestyle items and a distinct anti-branding philosophy of emptiness,” MUJI has made bold moves in the past few years with a rapid North American expansion, the introduction of prefabricated micro-hut designs, and most recently, translating its vision into the hospitality sector with MUJI Hotel.
The first location is now open just a short hop across the border from Hong Kong, in the new UpperHills complex in Shenzhen’s Futian district. With a palette of naturally-hued woods, neutral fabrics and a marked absence of branding, the 79-room hotel paints itself as a wellness retreat which, in addition to its on-site gym and 24-hour library, also incorporates a restaurant called MUJI Diner which serves the wholesome, locally-sourced meals already available at its in-store cafes.
