A five-star living experience replete with history and grandeur.
New York City has long been known as a paradise for art deco heritage. Since the 1920s after the first world war, the city of dreams has been bristling with spectacular art deco gems that have given the neighbourhood a dose of character. Among them is The Waldorf Astoria New York.
Sleek on the outside while lavish on the inside, the art decostyle hotel launched in 1931 has stood as a New York landmark on the premium Park Avenue. Its monochrome exterior has become a designated city landmark since 1993.
The coveted address is now being carefully restored into a collection of 375 luxury residences and a 375-key hotel to breathe new life into the art deco masterpiece, and is slated for completion in 2023.
Orchestrated by architectural firm Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM) and interior designer Jean-Louis Deniot, the residences will embrace a tasteful balance between modern comfort with art deco opulence. For example, the kitchens feature German appliances by Gaggenau, fitted with wood and lacquer cabinetry custom-designed by Deniot, and fabricated by Italian design house Molteni&C.
Residents will enjoy amenities and services spanning 50,000 square feet, which include a dedicated concierge closet for discreet delivery; a 25-metre pool, fitness and wellness centres; a salon with a library; billiards and games rooms with bar and lounge; private dining rooms; a private workspace; a theatre with a stage and screen; private wine vaults; among others.
