Junichi Arai was a master of his craft, blurring the lines between fashion, interior design and art, and elevating fabrics to new aesthetic and technological heights. To celebrate his lifelong efforts and achievements, The Institute of Textiles and Clothing at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) and the Centre for Heritage Arts & Textile by MILL6 Foundation present a retrospective entitled, Self-Organisation: Junichi Arai’s Textile Anthology”.
The exhibition invites you to take a sensorial journey through Arai’s pioneering career that pushed boundaries to explore the possibilities of fabrics. Thanks to computer-aided designs created on technologically-advanced looms and collaborations with the likes of Issey Miyake and Red Kawakubo, Arai aptly became known as ‘the Dream Weaver’ and is still recognised as one of the most innovative forces in textiles, not only in Japan, but across the globe.
