My exhibition Mccreedyblue at The Cat Street Gallery last month was my first solo exhibition in Asia and I’m very excited that it was in Hong Kong – such an amazing and dynamic city. I wanted to capture the power and movement of the city in my work for the show. Chinese calligraphy has also always been a passion of mine, which I think comes across in my brushstrokes. I was there to exhibit, as well as to learn.

I have always loved blue and its many shades, ever since I was child growing up in South Africa. Where the Atlantic and Indian oceans converge, you’ll find amazing shades of blue in the sea under a cobalt blue cloudless sky, it can also be the deepest midnight blue beneath a star-studded night sky. The powerful blue movement in shooting stars and ocean waves inspire my work.

The colour Mccreedyblue is a combination of six unique blue pigments manufactured uniquely for me – it came about from the pure love and desire for this specific shade of blue. It was achieved through lots of trials, errors and craftsmanship. It’s a truly magnificent hue.

I have a few future projects that I’m excited about. One is the Illuminatus Table. Inside it is phosphor that’s been liquidised into Mccreedyblue pigment, causing the table to illuminate. It holds an original Mccreedy painting inside, sealed with a clear glass top. We are also launching a digital art app that will revolutionise the way contemporary art is perceived and collected. We are in early stages but it’s very exciting and will launch beginning of 2016.
