The Macallan’s new collaboration with British artist Sir Peter Blake is a synergy between pop art and whisky.
The Macallan, one of the most highly regarded whiskies in the world, recently teamed up with the godfather of Pop Art, Peter Blake, in launching “The Macallan Anecdotes Of Ages Collection”. A pop-up exhibition is now being showcased at K11 Musea until June 23, which offers a glimpse into the British pop artist’s studio, in tandem with an immersive barley field installation reminiscent of The Macallan Estate in Speyside.
This exhibition is The Macallan’s third collaboration with Peter Blake. World-renowned for his creative and distinctive collage technique, which merges popular culture images with art, the artist’s avant-garde portrait collage has transcended numerous fashion, music and even art movements. This time, the brand is bringing Blake’s UK studio to Hong Kong on a 1:1 scale, exhibiting a number of his pop art works together with large prints of the artist's work with The Macallan Estate.
A must-see item is the infinity room that evokes the endless fields of golden barley, where the raw materials used to produce whiskey – including barley, water and yeast – manifest as dazzling lighting installations. Through reflection on the mirror, one gets the illusion of infinite extension as if flowing amidst a sea of gold.
Each collage artwork shown in the exhibition pays homage to The Macallan’s history and heritage. The new collection consists of 13 one-of-a-kind bottles of exceptional 1967 whisky. Each bottle features its own distinct original collage art on the label signed by Sir Peter Blake himself and sealed with an oak cork. Among them, “The Giant and The Fish” bottle will be displayed in the Hong Kong exhibition.
