Christmas is just around the corner – leading up to the holidays, Home Journal’s editorial team reveals what we’d like for Christmas. Editor Kissa Castañeda is hoping for these items to make their way under the tree.
I’ve just moved in to a new flat and now in decorating mode. I’m not the type to buy everything in one go – I don’t want to suffer buyer’s remorse, and as space is a critical thing in Hong Kong, there’s a need to think at least twice before buying. One piece I’m very sure about is Hans J Wegner’s CH88 chair, a prototype design that was produced this year to mark his 100th birthday; I’d love two pieces to bookend the ceramic dining table I got from Habitat.
I’m also eyeing the TS Table or TS Console by Gamfratesi for Gubi. I’m a big Gubi fan, and can’t wait to see their designs up close when I attend Stockholm Design Week next year.
One of the least worn pieces on my jewellery tray is a vintage Omega watch from my mother, which I haven’t donned as often as I should since I got an iPhone. That said, I’m not one to actively look for watches, but there’s one I’m definitely lusting after – Chanel’s Boy.friend watch. I adore anything with an androgynous edge, and this beige gold beauty just calls out to me! That, plus I have a major weakness for Chanel and Celine.
Alexander Calder is one of my favourite artists of all time, and I’m very much looking forward to seeing the exhibition at the Tate Modern when I visit London in February. Since owning one of his works is perhaps out of the question (though I’m not ruling it out), I would happily settle for pieces that reference his genius, such as the elegant lighting sculptures by Michael Anastassiades, sold locally at Magazzini Vivace, or these playful decorative mobiles available at Amelie & Tulips.
Candles are just like shoes – in that you can never have too many, at least. These candles from Le Feu de l’Eau would be a great addition to my collection. Each candle is sculpted underwater and has a unique wabi sabi shape and surface finish that reminds me of marble.
I love travel as much as I love design, so I’ve saved the most coveted item on my wishlist for last – a trip to Peru and South Africa. I’ve been talking to the travel experts at Lightfoot Travel and A2A Journeys for a while now, so I hope to truly make it happen next year. Bonus points if I score a table at Virgilio Martinez’s Central and a stay at Babylonstoren.
