The benefits of travel are well documented: brainpower can be boosted by new experiences and fresh horizons. Travel not only broadens your perspective, but scientific studies show it also improves your cognitive health and inspires creativity. Designers are particularly receptive to their surroundings, constantly gathering ideas and influences – often subconsciously. They may find their journeys referenced in their work, and sometimes at the core of their aesthetic or the driving force behind their latest creations. We speak to five creatives across the globe about the destinations that inspire them in this exclusive web series.
Martin Bergmann, co-founder of EOOS along with fellow Austrian designers Gernot Bohmann and Harald Gründl, has been awarded more than 130 design prizes. The team creates concepts for clients such as Bulthaup, Duravit and Dedon. EOOS has projects all over the world, but Martin is most often inspired by visits to the Tyrolean mountain range of his home country.
Amazing Architecture
Chicago’s amazing skyscraper architecture, right from the groundbreaking 19th- and 20th-century steel-framed buildings to today’s contemporary towering landmarks, never fails to make me feel excited and inspired.

Stylish Sips
I like the wine from the Gut Oggau estate in the province of Burgenland by Lake Neusiedl in Austria, which is run by Eduard Tscheppe and his wife, Stephanie Tscheppe-Eselböck. The vineyards are cultivated according to biodynamic principles and the wines are among the most sought-after in the country.
Intrepid Inspiration
The Dolomite Alps in Tirol are a world of wonder. They straddle Italy and Austria, and are therefore an intriguing mix of culture and cuisine – but as an Austrian, I may be biased.

Culture Vulture
As well as the MoMA in New York, I like to visit the unique Whitney Museum of American Art (pictured), designed by architect Renzo Piano in the area between the Hudson River and the High Line in the Meatpacking District.

Fine Food
Ubud in Bali has the most incredible street food I’ve ever tasted in all my travels around the world. There’s such a wide variety to choose from, with so many tantalising aromas and flavours.
Dream Home
The Dolomite Alps in Tirol will always have my heart. As an Austrian, I may be biased, but the rugged beauty, fresh air and total tranquillity of the region cannot be equalled.
