Influencers among the cognoscenti of the design world—from collectors and gallerists to designers and critics—come together again at Design Miami in Miami Beach to peruse the multitude of furniture, lighting, objets d’art, and other collectible design pieces that will be on show.
Encompassing 31 participating galleries, the fair’s Galleries section showcases pieces from the late Modernist era as well as the 18th and 19th centuries. Interspersed throughout the venue is Design Miami’s newest exhibition platform, Design Curios. As its name suggests, it takes inspiration from the cabinets of curiosity of yore, offering up ideas and objects that challenge common design conventions; this year, pieces focus on scientific and technological research. Meanwhile, Collaborations highlights the fair’s myriad collaborations with illustrious individuals and institutions from other creative disciplines, such as art, fashion and architecture; of particular note is Louis Vuitton’s Objets Nomades, which features some of the brand’s most iconic creations. Ever innovative, this year’s edition also features a revamped layout, allowing for such surprising booths as Louisa Guinness Gallery’s replica of a jeweller’s studio, and ceramics designer Jason Jacques’ booth, which takes up two storeys.
