Hand-selected luxe

Sourced from Spain, these large format tiles resemble marble, lending the kitchen a luxurious touch complemented by the warmth of the dark oak flooring. Alongside the sculptural chandelier at the opposite end of the room, this Sheung Wan apartment's aesthetic elements come together seamlessly for a contemporary and industrial look, made more impressive by the couple's DIY approach – yes, everything about this kitchen was handpicked by its owners, sans an interior design expert.

French finesse

For interior designer Laurence Beysecker, co-founder of design studio Atelierd&l and a fan of all things colour and personality, minimalist black and white colour schemes will not be found in her family home – save for the kitchen, a brightly-lit space brought to life by checkered tiles and the occasional colour interruptions of found kitchen objects. Deviating from the rest of the Repulse Bay abode, brimming with art works and mementos from her travels, the kitchen is a clean, calm and cosy reprieve, perfect for whipping up the next meal.

Stylish oasis

For this stylish businessman, the home is as much a cocoon to retreat to as it is a place for entertaining – as reflected in this convivial kitchen, warm and inviting with dominant wood finishes and infused with youthful freshness by the cabinetry's pops of blue. The Castle Peak Road apartment, sprawled across 1,200sqft, was redone by Nude Design.

Gathering place

Designed to house three generations of a family under one roof, the Valley House by Bean Buro emphasises togetherness in its common spaces, especially in the kitchen. Here, a white marble bar allows the family to congregate at any time of day.  Frameless glass sliding doors can seal off the kitchen to prevent cooking fumes from spreading, but allow light to penetrate the space, imbuing a sense of continuity.

Lean and green

COC Design founder Kevin Chu and wife Giulia Dibonaventura’s Discovery Bay home is a model of sustainable living, and this extends to the kitchen where the two lovers of cooking dish up their homemade salad using vegetables grown on their balcony. Giulia, also an avid baker, appreciates the open-plan kitchen allowing plenty of space to manoeuvre, while hanging plant pots continue the leafy theme throughout the entire home.

Grandma's cooking

Designed by hoo, this light-filled kitchen is where a grandmother welcomes her family into her 2,300sqft Parisian-inspired abode. The apartment's location from Jardine's Lookout provides panoramic views from the kitchen sink, while pendant lights from Allied Maker and Tolix stools match the more functional nature of this room.

Chalk it up

The home of celebrity hairdresser Kim Robinson exudes an industrial-country appeal, which is echoed in the kitchen where elements of wood, stone, steel and concrete create a moody space to whip up delicacies. The black-painted walls are used by Kim as a chalkboard too, making for seamless grocery list-writing.

One and only

A long table extends from a central cupboard and sink volume, making for a single, unbroken feature in PplusP founder Wesley Liu's own apartment. "Designing my own apartment was totally different from working on a client’s project, explains Wesley of this personal project. Budget becomes much more sensitive and I wanted to avoid repeating what I have done before."

Inside out

Fulfilling a promise of a husband to create a house for his wife that would allow them to stargaze, EF Design was tasked with creating a glass-topped kitchen in this Tai Po home that floods the space with natural light, blurring the line between indoors and outdoors. To keep it from becoming too hot in the summer, an electric awning was installed on top of the glass ceiling and two hanging fans help to circulate the air.
