Cassina marks 20 years of the Charlotte Perriand collection with new items.

They say things of quality stand the test of time – a statement best embodied by the legendary French architect and designer Charlotte Perriand. Her furniture, crafted in the 20th century, continues to set the gold standard for art de vivre snf remains as relevant as ever.

A beacon of modernism, Perriand’s work blends European and Asian influences, governed by practicality and sleek aesthetics. Take the Indochine chaise longue, born out of necessity during her time in Southeast Asia in 1943 when she was laid up during pregnancy and needed a chair to keep working. The chaise longue was originally crafted in rattan due to material shortages during wartime.

Today, to mark the 20th anniversary of the Charlotte Perriand collection, Cassina breathes new life into this timeless design with a new take on materials and finishes while keeping the longue’s signature aerodynamic silhouette. The three curved segments are now made of painted tubular metal for a greater sense of modernism.

This revamp highlights sustainability by using cutting-edge and eco-friendly materials for the upholstery, with a removable, quilted topper made from recycled PET fiber, wrapping the structure like a warm embrace.

An advocate for art de vivre, Perriand’s work is defined by statement-making elements that are equal parts bold and subtle. The iconic Rio table, originally crafted in 1938, is a prime example. Its six offset solid wood segments, each with a different radius, create a dynamic, jagged edge. The central void, reminiscent of a centre of gravity, adds a playful touch to any space.

Cassina builds on this radical design with new finishes in black-stained oak paired with natural Viennese cane, or luxurious marble options such as Sahara Noir (in a combined polished and matte finish), polished black Marquina, or classic white Carrara.

The Table Montparnasse, also dating back to 1938, remains a true showstopper today. Its distinctive asymmetrical six-sided form, supported by just three legs, was a groundbreaking departure from the cookie-cutter table designs of the era. Cassina tips its hat to this innovative spirit and textural appeal by offering new matte finishes in natural Canaletto walnut and black-stained ash.

Also in the spotlight are a limited edition of 30 Ventaglio tables and the debut of the Vase à fleurs échancré, meticulously crafted from Perriand's sketches during her time in Japan in the 1940s. Each revival in the collection bears the logo and author’s signature, as well as progressive numbering of the model for authenticity. The Charlotte Perriand Collection is available at Atelier A+.
