As the creative minds behind the iconic Barbie doll continue to celebrate its remarkable success, the spotlight now shines on their redesigned Warsaw office. Step inside Mattel’s captivating space brought to life by BIT CREATIVE.
Occupying almost 7,000 sq feet of space, Mattel's Polish headquarters in the Warsaw Business District, on the 34th floor of Skyliner, immerses visitors in the enchanting world of the renowned toy manufacturer. The office design reflects the vibrant spirit of Mattel's iconic products such as Barbie, Fisher Price, Hot Wheels and Matchbox. Architect Barnaba Grzelecki aimed to create a multicoloured interior that captures the essence of the brand while maintaining a balanced and non-overwhelming atmosphere for employees.
Meeting rooms showcase colours and motifs from Mattel's portfolio, while open common spaces and work areas feature a limited colour palette of grey and white, with subtle accents in the company's signature red. The office boasts a wide range of meeting rooms, collaboration spaces, a fully equipped kitchen, open areas, and individual offices. The reception area and waiting room enhance the overall interior design. Noteworthy design elements include stylish perforated and painted ceilings, inviting warm wood accents, and a colour palette featuring white, grey, and red tones. Adding a touch of whimsy is a unique sofa designed in the shape of a Barbie bus.
The main meeting rooms, representing the Barbie and Fisher Price brands, are visually connected and mirror each other. They feature unconventional tables made from car engine fragments and modified conference chairs from original car seats. Similarly, the smaller four-person rooms, representing the Hot Wheels and Matchbox brands, have a visual resemblance.
Moving on to the third group, these are small rooms designed for intimate meetings. Each room has a unique finish and a distinctive element that represents the brand it represents. One room may have a scrabble game board table, while another may have a wall made of Mega Bloks. These rooms are adorned with vibrant colours from the respective product's colour scheme on the ceiling and walls, highlighting the brand's character.
In contrast, the employee spaces in the open area follow a white-grey colour scheme with accents of red. The ceiling in this section is a consistent element throughout the arrangement, while large-diameter felt lamps hang above the desks. The walls are adorned with decorative panels upholstered in fabric, featuring two complementary colours. On the other hand, the social areas, collaboration zone and chillout area are boldly decorated.
Architect Zuzanna Wojda reveals, "To give the social room a touch of nostalgia, we decided to add some final touches that would truly enhance the kitchen's visual appeal. As a result, you'll immediately notice the charming fluted fronts and the vibrant terrazzo countertop incorporated into the kitchen cabinets. Additionally, neon lights adorn the walls, adding a lively atmosphere to the space. Taking it a step further, we crafted steel flowerbeds with expanded metal just below the ceiling, creating a perfect home for flourishing potted plants."
One remarkable advantage of this room is its strategic placement that grants it a panoramic view of Warsaw and its surroundings, making it an ideal spot for a coffee break. Taking this into consideration, the kitchen was crafted to include several seating areas, allowing staff to indulge in the mesmerising views while enjoying their little moments of peace.
