Born and bred in Hong Kong, Joe Kwan worked as a graphic designer before striking out with a friend to create Anicorn Watches, which has garnered acclaim in the international design world for its distinct, graphical watch designs.

Having made his home in the characterful neighbourhood of Sham Shui Po, Joe introduces us to several of his most dependable spots for intellectual and gastronomic nourishment.

A small and cozy place with well-curated exhibitions, a workshop and nice coffee. All these things make it the go-to hub for the creatives of the surrounding neighbourhood.

Right next door to common room and co., Form Society is organised by artist Wong Tin Yan in collaboration with KaCaMa Design Lab and local Sham Shui Po residents. Exhibitions and social design events regularly take place here, providing a space for dialogue with people from different walks of life.

Probably the best place to shop for a gift for your loved ones. They have a very well-curated selection of products sourced from the founder’s travels abroad that you would rarely find in Hong Kong otherwise.

My favourite cha chaan teng that serves excellent Hong Kong-style coffee and milk tea. Don’t miss the spring onion pork chop with rice and, of course, the French toast.

For hipsters and alcoholics alike. This bar specialises in a fusion of Chinese and Western cultures, expressed through their imaginative rice wine and Yakult cocktails, and a host of psychedelic neon colours.
