Dedicated to showcasing celebrated British artisans’ skills and creativity through a vibrant range of collaborations, lifestyle brand Jo Malone London teamed up with artist and wallpaper designer Marthe Armitage for a limited edition collection for summer, newly released this month. The series, titled Summer Afternoon, was inspired by one of Marthe’s favourite authors, Henry James, who once said these were the happiest words in English language.
The Jo Malone London creative team came to see me and we had a great discussion. We thought about the river, about plants and planting, and then gardens, Marthe explains. I wanted to capture a perfect English summer afternoon. My ideal garden has statuary in it, so I took inspiration from Chiswick House that’s very near my home and studio. From there, Marthe turned to ingredients used in Jo Malone London scents and chose pear tree, honey bees, blackcurrant, fig and rose to recreate the mood.
The results of Marthe’s nature-inspired vision include the Red Roses Scented Drawer Liners, Green Tomato Leaf Home Candle, Nectarine Blossom & Honey Glass Decanter Bath Oil. Her signature hand-drawn lino-cut print also adorns the packages of the limited edition range.
The collection is available now at Jo Malone London stores throughout Hong Kong.
