Picture this: You, enjoying the Mona Lisa, sans the elbow-to-elbow fight with fellow humans trying to do just the same.
Then take that image, stretch the moment by several hours, and throw in a decadent bed and supper experience, along with a bespoke, guided tour of the Musée du Louvre to boot – for only you and a plus one.
Indeed the prized opportunity exists, dangled by a partnership between the Louvre and AirBnb in celebration of the museum's 30th anniversary. For one evening only on April 30, 2019, one lucky winner and a guest will get to spend a night at the museum, complete with an overnight stay in a mini pyramid specially built underneath the I.M. Pei-designed glass structure.
After the guided tour with an art historian, the lucky pair will get to enjoy drinks –the menu features a Renaissance-inspired aperitif, reportedly – with the Mona Lisa. This is followed by a dinner feast with the Venus of Milo in a pop-up dining room, and an acoustic concert.
At the end of the evening, the two special guests get to slumber under the Pyramid. Talk about an epic sleepover.
"We are happy to offer this unique and special experience for two people to stay in the museum overnight, in a bespoke pyramid shaped bedroom," says Anne-Laure Béatrix, deputy managing director of the Louvre. "We know that many people would love the opportunity to wander alone at night through the Louvre and we want this to be a magical and unforgettable experience."
Those interested in the lone wanderer role need to be able and available to travel to France between April 28 and May 2, as well as convince the Louvre and AirBnb folks of the following, in 800 characters, by April 12: why would you be the Mona Lisa's perfect guest?
And if luck isn't on your side this time around, don't fret – the Louvre will be hosting more experiences from May through the end of the year, all of which will be bookable on AirBnb.
