Fritz Hansen, the Danish furniture brand known for its modern take on Nordic design and lifestyle, has opened its first store in China.
At more than 10,000sqft, it is the brand's largest showroom in the world.
Tasked to design the store is Spanish artist-designer Jaime Hayon, who has also previously designed Fritz Hansen collections. Featuring his signature quirk, tempered for the Fritz Hansen aesthetic, the result is a showroom that’s bold, youthful and elegant, replete with warm colours and a smattering of rounded features.
High ceilings and tall arches dominate, as easily observed upon entering the store. The all-white receiving area is anchored by an emerald green reception desk and a looming round staircase, and leads visitors to multiple rooms depicting Fritz Hansen collections in various living setups.
On the ground level's terrazzo flooring, a gold-coloured tracing appears to visualise a face when viewed from above.
The rooms, 14 in total, each come in unique colour motifs, including ruby, lime, and, yes, millennial pink. The upper floor houses more neutral schemes.
Throughout, furniture such as couches, sofas, coffee tables, desks and chairs are arranged to evoke both a mood and a living area.
Art works, accessories, and potted plants further create a sense of cosiness and home through the various spaces. Collections designed by Hayon, as well as other designers, both recent and historical, feature in the gallery.
In collaboration with Upper Living, Fritz Hansen’s opening in one of the country’s oldest cities is a response to one of the world’s most rapidly-growing luxury markets, particularly in home design and lifestyle.
The 148-year-old brand is known for its collections of high-end yet understated furniture, as well as collaborations with leading international designers that include Nendo, Arne Jacobsen, Studio Roso, and more.
