Founded in 2014, Urban Coffee Roaster has made a name for itself in Hong Kong’s increasingly crowded artisanal coffee scene in a mere three years. Adding to its roster of two locations in Kowloon, UCR is opening its third outlet on the quaint Pound Lane in Sheung Wan at the C DOU event space for an initial six-month period.
The new location on Hong Kong Island serves freshly made brews within an airy yet cosy space that makes use of sheet metal accents juxtaposed with lush indoor foliage. Meanwhile, the drinks menu utilizes over a dozen direct trade coffee beans exclusive to UCR, including the Oma Block Gesha 1931 from Ethiopia. Coffee aficionados will also be able to pick up solid cold brews, coffee beans, drip bags, or even a graphic tee from the counter.
Those feeling a bit peckish would do well to order the cafe’s selection of Australian-style breakfast plates, including avocado and poached egg toast or curry potato rosti.
