Dumb Design + Production was established in 2022 and specialises in interior design and construction projects, while also encompassing product design and video production services. Its team of five members each has their own expertise, yet come together to create tailored design solutions for every project.
Could you describe your design philosophy, and how it came about?
We believe that interior design goes beyond just soft and hard furnishings. It's about tailoring the design to the homeowner's lifestyle with designs that have a personality, like custom-designing a mahjong table or tiles for a client who loves playing mahjong or creating a clothing rack and art display for a fashion enthusiast. Our goal is to create an elevated and unique living experience for our clients by going beyond just interior design and renovation, and then with our team's vision and understanding of each space, capturing the design through video production. This comprehensive service gives clients a truly one-of-a-kind interior design experience. Although our team is still growing in number and scope, we remain committed to our original vision and hope to showcase the excellence of Hong Kong's interior design to the world.
Which project(s) are you most proud of this year?
This year, we are particularly proud of two design projects we have completed. One is an 800 square foot unit in The Bloomsway, where the homeowners have a high receptiveness to innovative designs and material choices. The entire unit features artistic oil paintings and multiple curved lines, creating a truly one-of-a-kind design. The other project is a traditional public housing unit in Shek Kip Mei, which is nearly 50 years old. Despite its age, the area still attracts many young people to its local eateries and shops, making it a vibrant community for people of all ages.
What's next for your company?
Our future plan is to continue to bring more innovation and creativity to the Hong Kong interior design industry through each new design, while also using product design to further enhance the uniqueness of every residential or commercial project. We hope that Hong Kong's interior design industry will be able to stand out among other Asian regions and countries, and not be overshadowed by places such as Singapore, Taiwan, and Japan.
