1sec.Left is a Hong Kong-based interior design studio led by Kason Chung. Focused on living space design with natural, meticulous, and authentic elements, “1 second left” means it treats any project as its last one.
Could you describe your design ethos? And how it has evolved over your career?
For each project, I always focus on the behavioural patterns of users and anticipate clients’ needs such as flooring materials in the foyer that are easy to clean, and storage solutions for clothes, shoes, and slippers. Such details are paramount to enhance a user’s quality of life. Elevating living standards has been the bedrock of my studio, and I continue to learn and adapt, and provide clients with living spaces that are all the more thoughtful and intimate.
Which project(s) are you most proud of this year?
My proudest project of the year is the transformation of a modest 300 square foot public housing apartment. The first day I met the homeowner, who kept praising my previous works and saying I was the one and only designer for the project, our collaboration has been serendipitous.
Within a day I was enlisted with the task to transform this small home. The design process and the outcome have been memorable for both of us, and the satisfaction I get from this project has driven me to do more throughout the year.
Can you name a book, movie, or music track that has significantly inspired your designs?
Instead of inspiration, I find myself more driven by sources of energy. I am easily moved by fast music, contemporary anime theme songs in particular, giving me a sense of invincibility that I can tackle any challenge along the way.
What’s next for your company?
1sec.Left’s creative and design prowess is in a large part manifested through renovations. Going forward, I want 1sec.Left to go beyond renovations and become a local high-quality lifestyle brand.
