Hans Interior Design is an award-winning design firm founded by designer Liam Lam. HANS stands for "home and nature symmetry", emphasising the balance between home and nature in interior design. Could you describe your design philosophy and how it came about?
Good design stands the test of time and can become a lasting classic.
Which project(s) are you most proud of this year?
The project I’m most proud of this year is our residential design that received an award at the Home Journal Awards. What makes this project special is that we used only wood tones and white as the main palette throughout the house. By playing with different structures, light, and layers, we created a pure and simple design. The result is a three-dimensional visual effect that enhances both the structure and details of the space. Utilising a monochromatic colour scheme, we achieved delicate layering and left ample white space to create a sense of openness and comfort.
What’s your go-to spot that inspires you the most creatively?
I find inspiration in the early-stage environments of every project, when most of the original materials have been cleared away, leaving just concrete and steel. Being in that space gives me a sense of starting from scratch, allowing countless design possibilities and ideas to emerge. Using a bold marker on the rough walls and floors feels like adding lines to an oil painting, sketching out contours and immersing myself in the process.

In the future, we aim to create even more outstanding design projects as our company grows.
