Q&A with Grande Interior Design: Empathy Is Central To Our Approach

Could you describe your design philosophy, and how it came about?

While designing my first home, I found that my expectations were difficult for others to meet. This realisation inspired me to establish my own design studio, allowing me to create my ideal home as my inaugural project. Grande’s brand philosophy is anchored in crafting refined, minimalist designs, that stand the test of time. Empathy is central to our approach; we immerse ourselves in our clients' perspectives, making decisions that prioritise their needs above all else.

Which project(s) are you most proud of this year?

One of our projects this year involved the consolidation of three units, including a rooftop penthouse, with a total indoor and outdoor space of nearly 6,000 square feet. The biggest challenge was integrating the adjacent units while simultaneously custom- building the upper and lower penthouse units, connecting the three different units, and navigating a lengthy approval process. We had to prioritise structural safety and maintain close communication with various structural engineers, government departments, and other stakeholders. Although the project took over a year to complete, we're thankful to have been part of this unique project.

Q&A with Grande Interior Design: Empathy Is Central To Our Approach

What's your go-to spot that inspires you the most creatively?

I recently returned from a trip to Barcelona that left a lasting impression, particularly from the work of legendary Spanish architect, Antoni Gaudí. His masterpieces, including the still- under-construction Sagrada Família, are a testament to his creativity and passion. It's an inspiration that warrants our collective attention and admiration.

What's next for your company?

We will try to step out of our comfort zone and expand beyond Hong Kong to other cities and regions. We hope to promote Grande's brand philosophy of "form of empathy" and share our refined, minimalist design aesthetic with different cultures and places.
