Q&A with Aden Chan, the founder of LYYH Studio: I Believe In Staying Curious And Adaptable

Could you describe your design philosophy, and how it came about?

Throughout my career, I have maintained a mindset of humility and openness, approaching each project as a chance to learn and grow. Design, to me, is a continuous process of evolution – an ever-changing journey. I believe in staying curious and adaptable, and constantly seeking new challenges to push boundaries and expand knowledge. This journey has been guided by two key principles – first, purpose. Every design must respond to a specific need or problem, serving as a solution that resonates with its users. Second, memory. Beyond aesthetics, design should leave a lasting emotional impact, creating meaningful experiences that endure in people’s memories.

Which project(s) are you most proud of this year?

The project I am most proud of this year is the design series The Dawn & The Dusk, completed in early 2024. This pair of residential apartments showcases a striking black-and-white contrast, embodying two distinct, yet complementary design narratives. Situated in the prestigious and historic district of Ho Man Tin, the series reimagines urban living, blending serenity, functionality, and refined aesthetics.

Q&A with Aden Chan, the founder of LYYH Studio: I Believe In Staying Curious And Adaptable

What's your go-to spot in Hong Kong that inspires you the most creatively?

A unique source of inspiration for me often arises when I’m driving. The rhythmic hum of the engine, the sparkling sound of the exhaust, and the seamless motion of the car create an almost meditative state. It’s in these moments, when my mind becomes calm and focused, that I find clarity. The dynamic, yet controlled environment, allows my thoughts to flow freely, enabling me to refine and develop design ideas. The act of driving becomes more than a journey; it’s a creative process where movement and sound ignite focus and bring out my most thoughtful design thinking.

What’s next for your company?
