Photographer Kasper Forest has won Gold in the Professional Film Photography category and Third Place overall at the 2025 Tokyo International Photography Awards for Conflict Hong Kong, a project spanning a decade.
Using Ilford 135 film, Kasper photographs Hong Kongs marginalised communities—homeless people, ethnic minorities, LGBTQ+ individuals, and workers in fading industries. His black-and-white images capture subjects with dignity while incorporating their own narratives through a confessional method. Each photograph tells a genuine story from communities often overlooked in Hong Kong.
Curator Wong Yun Hong describes the work as examining how we see and are seen through photography, questioning conventional portrayals of marginalised groups. Beyond documenting images, Kasper preserves the voices and experiences of these communities.
Human Conflict: Recording the Invisible Across a Decade runs February 13 to March 1, 2026, at Victoria 1842 Bookstore in Shinjuku, Tokyo, with artist-led tours available. The award recognises Conflict Hong Kong, which Kasper began in 2016.
