Amid the buzz of Hong Kong Arts Month, a sea of plush flowers that never wilt has taken over the Central Harbourfront.
Partnering with Australian contemporary artist Cj Hendry, Henderson Land has brought her acclaimed immersive installation “Flower Market” to Asia for the first time, wrapping the city in a soft, tactile glow.

Who is Cj Hendry?
The Brisbane-born artist is one of the most talked-about contemporary names of her generation. Self-taught rather than art-school trained, she started out drawing at home for fun, obsessively honing her skills with pens and pencils before her work went viral on social media. She is best known for hyperreal drawings of material icons – from designer sneakers and handbags to banknotes – with each piece taking up to 200 hours and finished with photographic precision. Her rise from “outsider” to international star, powered by both craft and savvy self-promotion, has made her especially relatable to younger audiences.

When she felt she had pushed drawing on paper as far as it could go, Hendry shifted towards large-scale immersive installations that people could literally walk into. Flower Market is now one of her signature series: instead of working with real blooms, she sews oversized, playful “fake” flowers from plush, fabric and foam. For her, flowers capture the simplest kind of happiness but are gone in an instant, so she turns these fleeting forms into something you can hug, keep and even take home. Inside the greenhouse-like pavilion, visitors move through waves of soft flowers, responding not just with their eyes but with their whole bodies and emotions to the colour and texture around them.
Henderson Land x Cj Hendry Flower Market
Staged at AIA Vitality Park on the Central Harbourfront and organised by Pen & Paper with Henderson Land as title sponsor, “Henderson Land x Cj Hendry Flower Market” marks the installation’s Asian debut. Since the event was announced, demand has been so strong that all reservation slots were snapped up in under a day, making it one of this year’s standout talking points during Art Month. As a highlight of Henderson Land’s 50th anniversary celebrations, the project opened first to 160 children and seniors, inviting different generations to step into the plush flower field together and using art as a way to build community and bridge age gaps.

The visitor journey begins in a leafy hedge maze that gently slows the city’s usual pace; once you emerge, you arrive at a greenhouse-style pavilion. Inside are more than 26 plush flower designs, with two Hong Kong exclusives: the allium “Henderson Flower”, symbolising unity, strength and resilience, and the “Bauhinia”, inspired by the city’s emblem. The allium echoes Henderson Land’s 50-year story and the Allium sculpture installed beside The Henderson, finished in the brand’s signature “Henderson Green”, while the Bauhinia picks up the floral motif of Hong Kong’s icon and riffs on the architectural lines of The Henderson, threading both brand narrative and city identity into the installation.

For Hendry, Flower Market is less a pretty backdrop than a study in joy and memory. She hopes that even after the pavilion is packed away and the lights go out, the sense of playfulness and lightness people found in the plush blooms will stay with them – that whenever we see flowers, real or plush, we’ll think back to this garden that never fades.
